First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has reiterated her call for stronger measures against terrorists and bandits involved in the kidnapping of Nigerians and extorting ransoms from their families. Senator Tinubu emphasized the need for lawmakers to collaborate in enacting laws aimed at deterring kidnappers across the country.
Senator Tinubu made these remarks during a meeting with the three Senators representing Lagos State’s senatorial districts at her office in Abuja. She stressed the urgency of addressing the scourge of kidnapping, likening it to a war against kidnappers.
“We must consider the legislation we will introduce. Kidnapping is akin to a war, a war against kidnapping and kidnappers,” Senator Tinubu emphasized.
She also highlighted the commitment of her husband, President Bola Tinubu, to leave a lasting legacy for future generations, underscoring the sacrifices and courage required for such endeavors.
“The administration of President Tinubu is determined to leave a legacy for generations yet unborn. This requires significant sacrifice and courage,” Senator Tinubu remarked.
The three Senators who paid a visit to the First Lady were Adetokunbo Abiru, Oluranti Adebule, and Sikiru Osinowo.
It’s worth noting that Senator Tinubu had previously advocated for capital punishment for kidnappers in light of the abduction of schoolchildren in Kaduna, during the International Women’s Day 2024. She expressed her stance through her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, during a meeting with the national women leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the State House in Abuja.
“They are cowards. Our hearts bleed. I call on the state governments that once we take hold of them, they deserve capital punishment. Why can’t they take men of their size, why are they touching women and children,” Senator Tinubu had stated.
“What they are doing is that they are trying to kill our future, we all know that when parents are old, we rely on our children, we see them as our investments that have not gone to waste especially when they are successful.”
