President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, following the retirement of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola on Thursday.
Justice Kekere-Ekun took the oath of office and signed the oath register at 11.40 am at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja on Friday. President Bola Tinubu had earlier returned from a brief visit to France to swear in the new acting CJN.
Kekere-Ekun succeeds Ariwoola, who assumed office on June 27, 2022, and bowed out on Thursday, after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 70 years.
Justice Kekere-Ekun would become the 23rd Chief Justice of Nigeria if her nomination by the president is confirmed by the Senate.
