President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). He succeeds Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose two-term tenure is scheduled to end on July 31, 2026.
The appointment was announced in a State House press release issued on May 21, 2026, by Bayo Onanuga.
Academic and Professional Background
Professor Aina is a distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in examination systems, digital infrastructure, and institutional reform within the public sector.
He obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent. He further earned a Master of Science degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, as well as a PhD in Digital Signal Processing, both from Loughborough University. In addition, he completed the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.
Currently a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Professor Aina has built a reputation for expertise in technology-driven institutional transformation.
Career Experience and Contributions
Professor Aina began his relationship with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained firsthand experience in admissions administration and data-driven institutional operations. These experiences reportedly influenced his continued contributions to examination reform and systems optimisation in Nigeria.
With more than 15 years of post-graduation experience, he has worked at the intersection of technology, policy, and governance, advising federal and state governments on digital transition, operational reform, and systems design.
He has also served as a consultant to major examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and several State Ministries of Education. His areas of expertise include ICT systems management, examination integrity, and digital process optimisation.
At the age of 39, Professor Aina became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in Computer Engineering and is now set to become the youngest Registrar in JAMB’s history.

According to the Presidency, President Tinubu expects Professor Aina to leverage his extensive experience and practical insight to further strengthen the operations of JAMB and build upon the achievements recorded under the outgoing Registrar, Professor Oloyede.
The appointment is viewed as part of ongoing efforts to modernise and improve the efficiency, credibility, and digital capacity of Nigeria’s educational assessment and admissions systems.
