Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has alleged that the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, are secretly working in the interest of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election. In a post on Saturday, Adeyanju accused the two opposition figures of repeating the same political role they allegedly played during the 2023 election cycle, warning that a vote for them would ultimately benefit Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress.
Adeyanju urged Nigerians not to waste their votes on the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket, insisting that supporting them would only strengthen the ruling party. He claimed the two politicians are fully aware of their actions and are deliberately working to fragment the opposition.
The allegation comes amid a shifting political landscape. Obi and Kwankwaso, who contested the 2023 presidential election on separate platforms, have now united under the NDC banner. Their merger was widely seen as an attempt to consolidate opposition forces against Tinubu, but Adeyanju’s claim suggests the arrangement may serve a different purpose.
The controversy is further complicated by Obi’s recent remarks in Enugu, where he stated he would never abuse or disrespect President Tinubu, saying the President deserves his respect despite political differences. Adeyanju’s allegation raises fresh questions about the sincerity of the opposition’s unity efforts as the 2027 election approaches.
