Let me tell you something about the kind of son Rotimi Amaechi is, and I want you to sit with it for a moment. He went on Channels Television’s Politics Today’ last Friday and told the whole country that Tinubu’s policies killed his mother. His mother, a woman who died at 89 in July. He said before Tinubu came, she was healthy, and after 2023, he couldn’t afford her drugs anymore. “Tinubu’s policies killed my mother,” he declared, as if the President personally walked into a pharmacy and slapped the medicine out of his hand.
Now, I need you to understand who we’re talking about here. This is a man who was Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly for eight years. Governor for eight years. Minister of Transportation for eight years. That’s 24 years in top public office, feeding from the national trough. And he wants us to believe he couldn’t buy medicine for his own mother. He’s declared himself as the real Ọmọ ọsàn. The useless child who eats and eats but never remembers the womb that carried him.
Nyesom Wike, whatever you think of him, nailed it. He asked the question every sensible Nigerian should be asking: “This one, a speaker for eight years, from 1999 to 2007. This one, a governor for eight years, from 2007 to 2015. This one, a minister for eight years, from 2015 to 2023. And your mother was sick, and you are telling the whole world that because of the policy of Tinubu, you couldn’t buy drugs for your mother, and so your mother died.” Wike even pointed out the obvious: Amaechi’s own wife is an industrialist. Yet the industrialist wife couldn’t give him money for her mother in law’s medicine. And the friends with private jets who flew down to bury her? He couldn’t call them when she was alive to ask for help.
Let that sink in; he had friends who could fly private jets to Ahoada for a burial, but not one of them could be asked to help buy drugs for a sick old woman. Or maybe he didn’t ask because he didn’t want to spend his own money. And this same man told us in April 2025 that he doesn’t like money, that his wife doesn’t even have a car. But under Tinubu’s government, he reportedly rented a hall for ₦30 million for his birthday and spent over ₦200 million on the party. His daughter graduated from the University of Southampton, with school fees paid in pounds sterling. Yet his mother’s medication was the one thing Tinubu’s policies made impossible. No wonder the Presidency called him a clown. I think that’s being generous.
What makes this worse and what makes this truly an ọmọ ọsàn behaviour, is that he dragged his mother into politics after she was gone. Wike revealed that Amaechi made a video saying his mother would be happy if ADC won the 2027 election. So now his dead mother’s happiness is tied to his vice presidential ambition. The woman couldn’t get medicine when she was alive, but now she’s a campaign prop. Wherever she is, I doubt she’s smiling.
Amaechi spent 24 years in power and couldn’t point to one thing he brought home to his own people. Wike challenged the people of Evo Kingdom to show what he brought to their land in all those years. Nothing. Not one single thing. And this is the man now telling us he couldn’t afford his mother’s drugs.
If you can’t take care of the woman who gave you life, after 24 years of eating from government coffers, then what exactly were you doing all that time? The answer is simple: taking care of yourself. His mother’s death is not Tinubu’s fault. It’s the fault of a son who had everything and still couldn’t find it in his heart to give his mother the care she deserved. Amaechi is an Ọmọ ọsàn, indeed, who allows the harvester’s baton on his mother’s head.
