In politics, a leader’s actions and words speak volumes about their dedication to the people they serve. The situation surrounding Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, brought my attention to his handling of regional issues and his reflection on his true commitment to addressing them.
Despite Peter Obi’s influence his way of turning blind eye to the persistent insecurity in the South Eastern region stands out. He is also updated in addressing negative news from the and Northern part and other regions through press conferences and social media, but his silence on issues within his own region seems puzzling to me.
A recent distressing incident at a hotel in Mr. Obi’s home state, where the ESN unit of the IPOB group carried out a brutal attack resulting in a massacre, further highlights this concerning pattern of neglect. Shockingly violent, the incident involved kidnappings, brutal murders, and mutilation of victims’ bodies.
Despite the public’s expectation for swift action, Peter Obi remained conspicuously silent for 48 hours. This silence, especially in a region he once governed, still makes me question his true identity.
Instead of addressing the tragedy, Peter Obi chose to focus on a bomb attack in Kaduna, for media attention and photo ops whereby diverting attention from the tragic incident in his home state. This corny approach by Mr Peter Obi makes me skeptical about his allegiance to his people.
Came across discussions and publications online accusing Peter Obi of consistently prioritizing news from other regions over issues within his own, which i never believed, sadly an accusation turned out to be true with the recent event.
Peter Obi’s selective attention to regional issues gives me more doubt about his leadership style, dedication to the welfare of all citizens like it’s been sold to the public online. Failing to address the ongoing insecurity in his region, coupled with diversionary tactics, deserves questioning his motives. Effective leadership requires unity and balance, i hope Nigeria citizens will understand why it’s important to seek leaders who prioritize the collective well-being of the nation.
