Borno South Senator Ali Ndume has distanced himself from the recent endorsement of President Bola Tinubu by 22 APC governors for the 2027 presidential election, warning that history might repeat itself as it did with former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015. Jonathan, despite the backing of 22 PDP governors, was defeated by Buhari in a significant electoral upset.
Ndume, speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, revealed that he left the Presidential Villa’s Banquet Hall when the governors endorsed Tinubu, stating, “I was there for a summit and when I realised it was not a summit and voice vote was put about the endorsement of Mr President, I just left.”
He lamented the worsening economic situation, soaring living costs, and insecurity, saying Nigerians are losing faith in the government’s “Renewed Hope.” Ndume urged the president to learn from Jonathan’s defeat and warned against complacency, emphasizing that endorsements alone do not translate into votes. “Jonathan had 22 governors then endorsing him like was done now. And what happened? Jonathan lost woefully,” he said.
