In response to a viral video alleging neglect of accident victims at the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, Abuja, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commended the hospital’s management for promptly launching an investigation into the conduct of its staff. FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed underscored the critical role of timely medical intervention in saving lives and reducing mortality rates among crash victims.
The video showed a good Samaritan transporting injured victims to FMC Abuja, where hospital staff were initially accused of refusing immediate care, citing lack of gloves. Despite these claims, some hospital personnel were later seen assisting a severely injured patient into the emergency unit, while others entered unaided.
Mohammed condemned the rejection of crash victims by hospitals, reminding that the 2024 National Road Traffic Regulations strictly forbid such practices and impose sanctions for negligence or misconduct. He called on all healthcare providers to adopt a proactive stance in emergency response and to uphold professionalism.
The FMC disclosed that eight staff members, including doctors, nurses, and attendants, are under investigation for alleged negligence. The hospital confirmed that all victims involved have since been treated and discharged, with the head injury patient stabilised promptly.
The FRSC Corps Marshal praised the good Samaritan for his courageous rescue efforts and urged Nigerians to foster a culture of safety and discipline on the roads. He reiterated the Corps’ commitment to work with healthcare providers to reduce fatalities and improve emergency care standards.
