The anti-corruption campaign of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has drawn support from Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, who has cautioned opposition leaders against politicising the agency’s recent activities.
The EFCC had recently arrested several prominent opposition figures over alleged corruption-related offences, sparking accusations that the government is deploying the commission to suppress dissent.
But in a statement released on Sunday in Osogbo, Oyintiloye countered that argument, stressing that corruption charges cannot be dismissed simply because suspects belong to opposition parties.
“The EFCC has a mandate to investigate financial infractions against anyone, irrespective of political affiliations. Linking the President to the investigation of alleged financial infractions by opposition members in the name of politics is totally wrong,” he said.
He urged critics to allow the anti-graft body to operate independently, noting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration remains committed to transparency and accountability.
“Whether you are a member of the ruling party or opposition, you are not immune to financial investigation,” Oyintiloye remarked. “President Tinubu is a man of honour and integrity, and he will not compromise his ideals in the name of politics. So, it is no longer business as usual.”
According to him, politicians attempting to exploit opposition platforms as cover for corrupt practices will not escape scrutiny. “More corrupt politicians hiding in opposition parties with the intent to blackmail the President to get themselves off the hook will still be arrested. No room for graft under Tinubu administration,” he concluded.
