ABUJA, Nigeria — A fresh twist has emerged in the controversy involving Nigeria’s Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, after Mrs. TracyNither Ohiri deleted social media posts in which she had levelled allegations against him.
The development occurred within 24 hours, during which videos and written posts previously published on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook disappeared from Mrs. Ohiri’s accounts. The materials had been used to criticise and accuse the Minister over claims that circulated widely online.
Senator David Umahi, a former Governor of Ebonyi State and a senior member of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s federal cabinet, currently supervises federal road and infrastructure projects across Nigeria.
In a press statement dated Monday, March 2, 2026, and signed by Francis Nwaze, Senior Special Assistant to the Honourable Minister of Works on Media, the Minister’s Media Office addressed the deletions directly.
The statement said it had “taken note of recent developments surrounding the persistent allegations circulated by Mrs. TracyNither Ohiri on social media.”
According to the statement, a review of the social media accounts shows that the same materials previously used to accuse and defame the Minister have now been removed. It added that the deletions followed what it described as public exposure of inconsistencies in the claims.
“This sudden cleanup follows the public exposure of several inconsistencies, ambiguities in her timelines, and discrepancies in the amounts stated in her claims. Faced with contradictions in her own narratives, she appears to have chosen deletion over explanation. These actions raise serious questions about the intent behind the allegations she promoted for years.”
The Media Office questioned how members of the public should interpret the removal of content that had reportedly existed for years and had influenced online discussions.
“It is important to ask how Nigerians are expected to reconcile the sudden disappearance of videos that were repeatedly presented to them. How does one explain the removal of content dating back several years, especially after mobilizing public sentiment and drawing uninformed support from Nigerians and commentators?”
The statement encouraged Nigerians to independently examine Mrs. Ohiri’s social media pages to confirm the deletions.
“The Media Office encourages Nigerians to independently visit and review Mrs. Ohiri’s social media pages. What is likely evident now is that Ohiri who portrayed herself as being oppressed is actually the oppressor.”
It further stated that all relevant records remain intact and verifiable, maintaining that allegations require proof.
“Our position is clear: all records are intact, verifiable, and available. Allegations remain allegations until proven. The burden of proof rests squarely on the accuser.”
The statement concluded that the Minister remains focused on implementing infrastructure projects under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
No legal action has been publicly announced as of Monday, March 2, 2026, but the controversy continues to generate discussion within Nigeria’s political environment.
