Human rights advocate and political activist, Omoyele Sowore, has rejected claims of a “Christian genocide” in Nigeria, describing such assertions as part of a larger propaganda campaign against the nation.
In a video that went viral on Monday, Sowore explained that terrorism in Nigeria affects everyone regardless of their religion, noting that more Muslims have lost their lives in terror-related incidents across the northern region.
“The children, men, and women being attacked are not profiled by the holy book they hold, whether Bible or Qur’an; they are Nigerians,” Sowore stated.
He pointed out that describing Nigeria’s security crisis as a religious war only strengthens the interests of foreign actors pushing divisive narratives. According to him, both Muslims and Christians have suffered heavily from terrorism, and efforts should be directed toward fighting insecurity instead of spreading religious tension.
Sowore urged Nigerians to unite in confronting terrorism and to avoid being drawn into narratives that seek to divide the nation along faith lines.
