The Senior Adviser to former United States President Donald Trump on Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, has said that the terrorist group Boko Haram has killed more Muslims than Christians in Nigeria.
Boulos made this known during a meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja, where both discussed efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the United States. The discussion also covered investment opportunities and measures to ensure regional stability across Africa.
According to Boulos, Nigeria plays a vital role in Africa’s peace and economic growth. He praised President Tinubu’s administration for showing commitment in the fight against terrorism and for introducing reforms aimed at improving the nation’s economy.
The statement from the U.S. envoy supports findings from several global reports that indicate Boko Haram’s attacks have mostly affected Muslim-majority areas in northern Nigeria, challenging the belief that the group mainly targets Christians.
Boulos’s visit reflects a growing U.S. interest in Nigeria’s counterterrorism policies and efforts to promote security and cooperation within the West African region.
