President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria has put his scheduled trip to South Africa for the G-20 Summit on hold as he awaits a detailed briefing from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who is currently in Kebbi State on an official assessment visit, according to senior officials within the Presidential Villa.
The development, confirmed late Tuesday by Villa sources familiar with the internal discussions, indicates that the President intends to receive first-hand updates on the situation in Kebbi before departing for the high-level international engagement.
Vice President Shettima, representing the Federal Government during his visit, is expected to submit a comprehensive report on conditions in the northwestern state, including insights gathered from meetings with local leaders, ongoing government programmes, and the broader security and socio-economic landscape.
Although President Tinubu had been slated to travel to South Africa to join world leaders at the G-20 Summit — a global forum made up of the world’s major economies — the decision to temporarily delay the journey underscores the administration’s priority on domestic issues requiring immediate attention.
Presidency insiders noted that the President is reviewing all critical national matters and intends to proceed to South Africa once the Vice President’s findings have been formally presented and evaluated.
Further updates are expected from the Presidency once the briefing is concluded.
