Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved the deployment of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion, a special forces unit, to Plateau State in north-central Nigeria.
The army said the troops are already in Plateau State and have been assigned to intensify operations following what it described as a resurgence of terrorist attacks in the area.
A statement issued on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, said the soldiers were received at the Headquarters of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division. The General Officer Commanding of 3 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, was represented at the reception by Brigadier General Senlong Sule, the Chief of Staff of the operation.
The army said the deployment is aimed at boosting security operations and restoring stability in communities that have recently recorded renewed violence.
The move comes after reported killings in Plateau State. On Saturday, February 7, 2026, four people, including a woman, were reportedly killed in Ding’ak village in the Mushere district of Bokkos Local Government Area (LGA), Plateau State. The report linked the incident to suspected Fulani militia, following earlier rumours of planned attacks.
Major General Oyinlola also urged residents not to panic when they see large troop movements and military equipment. He asked members of the public to keep supporting security efforts and to share timely intelligence that could help identify and arrest those behind criminal attacks.
