In a bold move to elevate Nigeria’s agricultural sector, President Bola Tinubu officially launched the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme in Abuja on Monday. The initiative is part of his administration’s broader vision to position Nigeria as a global agricultural powerhouse.
During the event, Tinubu announced the availability of more than 2,000 state-of-the-art tractors, alongside 50 bulldozers, 12 mobile workshops, and upwards of 9,000 farming implements. “We have over 2,000 advanced tractors, 50 bulldozers, 12 mobile workshops, and more than 9,000 farming tools ready,” he stated, adding that these resources will ease the burden of farming, create jobs, and make agriculture more attractive to young Nigerians.
The president further revealed that his government is collaborating with Belarus to train young people in modern agricultural practices, machinery repair, and equipment construction. This partnership aims to equip the youth with marketable skills and foster economic independence.
He called on the beneficiaries to make effective use of the equipment, warning that the government will monitor their usage closely. “We will supervise and hold you accountable,” Tinubu said.
In recognition of the efforts to combat food insecurity, Tinubu praised the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for its leadership in ensuring a stable food supply. He concluded by marking the day as a historic turning point for Nigerian agriculture: “Let history record today as the start of Nigeria’s farming rebirth.”
