Retired General Christopher Musa, who recently completed his tenure as Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, has described the country as “a nation worth fighting for,” urging serving officers to remain committed to the unity and security of the nation.
Gen. Musa gave this message on Friday in Abuja during an emotional Pulling-Out Parade organized in his honour to mark the end of his 39-year military career.
Reflecting on his years of service, Musa said serving Nigeria was the greatest privilege of his life. “This parade today is not just a ceremony; it marks the end of a journey devoted to protecting and uniting our country,” he said.
The retired General expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Tinubu, who appointed him as Chief of Defence Staff in 2023, for the trust and opportunity to serve. He also commended his fellow military officers and Nigerians for their consistent support in maintaining national peace and security.
Musa paid special tribute to his family, especially his wife and children, acknowledging the sacrifices they made during his time in service. “You are the unsung heroes of my service, and I owe you a debt of love that can never be fully repaid,” he said emotionally.
He encouraged officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces to remain disciplined, loyal, and professional in carrying out their duties, adding that the country’s success against insecurity depends on their collective dedication.
The former defence chief also called for closer cooperation among all security agencies, stating that lasting peace could only be achieved through teamwork. “No single institution can win this fight alone,” he emphasized, acknowledging the roles of the Nigerian Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA), and others in supporting the military’s operations.
Musa also thanked Nigerians, particularly the youth, for their prayers, resilience, and faith in the nation’s progress. “I remain a soldier at heart, a patriot committed to the sovereignty of Nigeria. This may be the end of my active service, but I will continue to serve in whatever way I can,” he said.
