Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State and Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in 2023, has raised concerns about the stability of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition ahead of the 2027 elections. He warned that unresolved issues around zoning and the rotation of top political offices could weaken the alliance.
Speaking in an interview on YouTube’s ‘Advocacy for Good Governance,’ Obi said the coalition needs to finalize agreements to avoid future confusion.
“While I support the coalition, we must settle the fundamentals everyone agrees to respect,” Obi said. “Right now, there are unsigned agreements about the presidency and office rotation. If these issues aren’t properly organized, it could create problems later.”
Obi expressed confidence in the leaders guiding the coalition, highlighting former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Senate President David Mark as experienced figures capable of steering the alliance in the right direction.
“I respect the leaders involved, including David Mark and Atiku, who I believe want the best for Nigeria,” he said.
When asked if he would stay committed to the coalition even if he isn’t chosen as its presidential candidate, Obi emphasized that his focus is on Nigeria’s progress, not personal ambition.
“I’m not desperate to be president; I’m determined to see Nigeria succeed,” he added.
