The nation has lost a venerable statesman and intellectual giant with the passing of Prof. Jibrin Aminu, former Minister of Petroleum, who died peacefully at his home in Abuja on Thursday at the age of 85.
Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, publicly mourned the loss, highlighting Aminu’s towering influence on Nigeria’s political and intellectual spheres. “The loss is monumental, not only for Adamawa State but for the entire nation,” Fintiri said in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonousikou. He praised Aminu’s decades-long dedication to Nigeria’s development through his wisdom and scholarship.
Prof. Aminu’s career was marked by significant national roles, including serving as Minister of Education, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Nigerian Ambassador to the United States, and Senator for Adamawa Central. Each position was characterized by his integrity, insight, and steadfast commitment to the country’s advancement.
Governor Fintiri described Aminu as “a rare breed of patriot and a silent reformer,” whose contributions to education, diplomacy, and politics have left an indelible mark. He prayed for divine forgiveness and eternal rest for the late professor and extended condolences to his family and the Nigerian people.
“Though his passing leaves a void, his legacy remains a guiding light for generations to come,” the governor concluded, invoking Allah’s mercy on Aminu’s soul.
