Christian Obodo, a former midfielder for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, has advised Victor Osimhen to strike a balance in his career choices as transfer rumors continue to swirl around the striker. Obodo pointed out that Osimhen’s hefty release clause and salary expectations have discouraged some top European clubs from making a move.
Obodo explained, “I know Osimhen would still like to play European football and achieve a lot but the clause Napoli put on him and his wages is scaring clubs away. The clubs do not want to make a decision that will bounce back and make them regret.”
He also criticized how Nigerian footballers are often undervalued compared to South American players, stating, “Nigeria does not package their players well. If Osimhen was Brazilian, they (European top clubs) would have signed since. The way some Nigerians talk about their countrymen is not fair.”
The former Udinese player urged Osimhen to carefully consider his options between remaining in Europe or accepting lucrative offers from clubs like Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia. “For me, it is left for Osimhen to compromise if he wants to stay in Europe or go to Al Hilal for the wages. Whatever decision he makes, we should just pray he does not make the wrong decision,” Obodo added.
Osimhen, 26, recently finished a loan stint at Galatasaray where he scored 37 goals in 41 games. Galatasaray is keen to sign him permanently, but he has also attracted interest from Juventus, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United. His potential move to Al Hilal fell through after wage negotiations stalled.
