The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that the mop-up examination for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025. This announcement was made by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Board’s Public Communications Adviser, through an official statement on Sunday.
A total of 96,838 candidates are expected to participate in the mop-up exercise. This includes 5,096 spill-over candidates who experienced biometric verification failures during the main UTME, as well as 91,742 candidates who were absent during the main and resit exams. Candidates have been advised to print their notification slips starting Monday, June 23, 2025, to prepare adequately for the examination.
The mop-up exam will be conducted across 183 centres nationwide, with some candidates placed on standby to ensure smooth operations. To uphold the integrity of the examination, JAMB has delisted 113 Computer-Based Test centres found culpable of technical failures and examination malpractice. These centres are under ongoing investigation, and those responsible will face prosecution.
The Board’s investigations have uncovered several examination malpractice syndicates involving school proprietors, tutorial centres, and some JAMB officials. JAMB expressed appreciation to the State Security Service, Nigeria Police Force, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for their role in exposing identity theft and examination fraud.
Due to these investigations, several examination towns have been deactivated. Candidates affected by this development will be reassigned to the nearest available centres, and the Board has appealed for their understanding.
Dr. Benjamin warned, “In a bid to crack down on impersonation, particularly by undergraduate students, the Board warned that institutions of those apprehended would be notified, and violators may face expulsion for breaching their matriculation oath, in addition to prosecution under the Examination Malpractice Act of 1999.”
Candidates are reminded that the exam will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m., and they should arrive at their centres at least one hour before the start time. JAMB reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and fairness, assuring that mop-up exams will be closely supervised with special squads of invigilators and security personnel deployed to monitor the process.
