Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Saturday paid a courtesy visit to the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, expressing gratitude for his unwavering support and wise counsel to the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu since its inception.
Speaking during the visit at the Sultan’s Palace in Sokoto, Senator Tinubu reflected on the longstanding relationship between their families, describing the Sultan as a respected traditional leader whose guidance has continued to provide valuable direction to the administration. She explained that the visit was primarily to appreciate the monarch for his consistent encouragement and support.
In his remarks, the Sultan of Sokoto emphasized the importance of seeking divine intervention for the nation, particularly in addressing insecurity and other challenges. He called for prayers for individuals perpetrating violence and evil, expressing hope that they would embrace genuine repentance and contribute positively to society.
The revered monarch also commended the First Lady for the impactful interventions of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), noting that the programme has positively transformed the lives of millions of Nigerians across the country. He described the initiative as a significant contribution to national development, particularly in supporting vulnerable groups.
Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, also expressed appreciation to the First Lady for visiting the Sultan, describing the gesture as a demonstration of respect for traditional institutions. He applauded the Renewed Hope Initiative, highlighting its people-centred programmes aimed at improving the welfare of women, children, youths and families nationwide.
The visit concluded with the Sultan inviting Islamic scholars (Ulama) to offer special prayers for Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the Governor of Sokoto State, himself, and for lasting peace, unity and prosperity across Sokoto State and the nation.
