President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare and operational capacity of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, saying the recent pay increase is already making a difference in the lives of servicemen, women and their families.
The President, who is also Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, said the Nigerian Army had operationalised new formations in Zamfara, Kebbi, Oyo and Osun States, bringing troops closer to vulnerable communities and strengthening their ability to respond swiftly to security threats.
According to PBAT, the new formations are part of broader efforts to enhance the operational effectiveness of the military and ensure that security personnel are better positioned to protect Nigerians.
He also disclosed that the Federal Government was fast-tracking the construction of new barracks and depots in Abuja, Ekiti, Ebonyi and Kogi States, while similar facilities in Osun State had already been completed.
The President said the infrastructure projects were necessary to provide better working and living conditions for military personnel and their families, especially as the government continues to demand greater sacrifices from those serving the nation.
“Every deployment is a sacrifice made by a family too,” PBAT said, stressing the need for the country to recognise and support the families of servicemen and women who are often left behind while their loved ones serve in challenging environments.
He said the welfare of military personnel remained a key responsibility of his administration, particularly in view of the sacrifices they make in defending the nation’s territorial integrity and protecting communities.
“As our Armed Forces stand watch over Nigeria, my duty as Commander-in-Chief is to ensure they have the resources and support to do their job, and that Nigeria stands firmly behind the families waiting for them at home,” the President said.
PBAT further expressed satisfaction with reports from servicemen and women about the impact of the recent pay increase, noting that improved remuneration was making a meaningful difference to personnel and their families.
The President reiterated that his administration would continue to strengthen the Armed Forces through improved welfare, infrastructure and operational support as part of efforts to safeguard Nigerians and enhance national security.
