Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has received the backing of First Lady, Aisha Buhari, over his claim that some elements in the presidency are plotting to sabotage the victory of the APC in the presidential election slated for Feb 25 through unpopular policies and actions, the result of which include a cripplling fuel and currency scarcity.
El-Rufai made the revelation in a media interview where he alleged that some figures in the presidency are in cahoots with the opposition to overturn the frontline position of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the APC.
The unnamed figures remained aggrieved over the emergence of Tinubu at the party primaries where he comprehensively defeated their preferred aspirant who is rumoured to be the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, El-Rufai alleges.
Aisha Buhari, the wife to president Muhammadu Buhari who wields great influence in the Villa, voiced her support for El-Rufai when she shared a clip of the interview containing the governor’s main allegation against the saboteurs who are non-members of the party and are exploiting the president’s goodwill for their own selfish ends.
Her endorsement of El-Rufai’s disclosure, which affirms rumours already making the rounds, reveals the extent of support Bola Tinubu enjoys from a growing segment of the Villa and northern establishment who view his emergence as a necessary reward to a loyal party member who contributed to Buhari’s victory and has demonstrated superior competence to pilot the affairs of the country.
