Speculations of internal strife within the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been dismissed by the Forum of APC State Chairmen.
During a closed-door meeting with the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Abdullahi Adamu, Secretary of the forum and APC chair in Cross River State, Alphonsus Oga, have refuted claims of party discord. He congratulated Sen. Abdullahi Adamu and his diligent NWC team on their recent victory.
Oga emphasized that reports about conflicts within the party’s rank and file, specifically regarding the postponement of Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings, were unfounded.
The previously scheduled National Caucus and NEC meetings, initially planned for July 10th and 11th, were rescheduled for July 18th and 19th.
Iyiola Omisore, the party’s national secretary, cited President Bola Tinubu’s regional and sub-regional commitments as the reason for the postponement. President Tinubu, as the new Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), had prior engagements.
Addressing the rumours, Oga stated, “There is nothing like that. If you have been following the itinerary of the president, he is presently not in the country, and he is expected to proceed on another journey. This was what necessitated the postponement of the meeting. This is a moment where rumours and blackmail can thrive. But as a party, there is only one APC, and we came again in solidarity to say we are strongly behind our National Chairman and the NWC.”
In an earlier meeting between the APC NWC and the party’s elected governors, matters of discipline, leadership, and the importance of harmonious relationships among stakeholders were discussed. Adamu urged the state chairpersons to communicate any identified issues in their respective states with the party’s leadership, emphasizing their responsibility to do so.
