France’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Emmanuelle Blatmann, has revealed that Nigeria holds the position of France’s primary trade partner in sub-Saharan Africa.
Speaking at the embassy’s residence in Abuja during the celebration of her country’s national day, the ambassador emphasized that Nigeria’s trade alone constituted a staggering 75% of French investments in West Africa.
Expressing her gratitude to the guests and embassy partners who attended the national day celebration, Blatmann highlighted the significance of the occasion for those who identify with the universal message espoused by the revolution and embrace the values of liberty, equality, and fraternity.
Highlighting the robust economic and trade relationship between France and Nigeria, the ambassador pointed out that more than 10,000 Nigerians were employed by around 100 French companies operating in Nigeria.
She also underscored the establishment of the French TECH Community in Lagos, which aims to foster collaboration between start-ups and entrepreneurs from both countries.
Furthermore, with President Bola Tinubu’s recent economic measures, the creation of a French Desk within Access Bank, and the hope of attracting new French investors, the envoy expressed optimism about future opportunities.

Signifying France’s appeal as an investment destination, Blatmann noted the opening of Access Bank’s first branch in Paris, establishing France as the top choice for foreign investment in Europe.
“The opening of the first branch of Access Bank in Paris also testifies to the attractiveness of France, the first destination for foreign investment in Europe, for several years.”
The ambassador emphasized that France’s actions were guided by values such as international solidarity, peace, democracy, and human rights, as well as a commitment to multilateralism.
Blatmann also stated that France looks forward to collaborating with Nigeria’s new administration, following President Tinubu’s inaugural visit abroad.
Bastille Day in France is an annual celebration held on July 14, featuring military parades and fireworks. This event commemorates the historic day in 1789 when French citizens united and stormed the Bastille prison fortress, signaling the beginning of the French Revolution.
