President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to immunisation, vaccine production and stronger collaboration with the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (Gavi), describing the organisation as a critical partner in improving public health and advancing vaccine access across Africa.
During the meeting with a Gavi delegation, the President expressed appreciation for the organisation’s commitment to humanity and its support for Nigeria’s healthcare sector, particularly its efforts to accelerate local vaccine production.
Tinubu said Nigeria recognises the importance of immunisation and remains committed to strengthening its vaccination programmes, noting that expanding vaccine production on the continent would empower Africa and improve health outcomes for future generations.
Describing Nigeria as “the heart of Africa,” the President said the country is taking immunisation seriously despite ongoing global debates around vaccines. He commended Gavi for its sustained support and pledged his administration’s full commitment to ensuring the partnership delivers tangible results.
The President also praised the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, for his leadership in transforming Nigeria’s health sector, describing him as patriotic, dedicated and committed to improving healthcare delivery.
According to Tinubu, investing in science, education and healthcare is essential to protecting future generations and tackling poverty across the continent.
“We owe it to the entire population to be foresighted, committed to developing the capacity of Africans and protecting future generations,” he said, adding that poverty can be overcome through education, dedication and patriotism.
The President stressed the need for sustained investment in scientific research and innovation, while thanking Gavi for its dedication to improving global health and supporting life-saving immunisation programmes.
Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to continued cooperation, Tinubu assured the delegation that his government would strengthen collaboration with Gavi to expand access to vaccines and improve healthcare outcomes.
The President also referenced Nigeria’s approaching election cycle, expressing optimism about securing another term in office and expressing hope that Gavi would continue its partnership with Nigeria in the years ahead.
