The Benue State Government has underscored its commitment to economic growth and industrial development through the establishment of the Food Basket Brewery, a major manufacturing project aimed at creating jobs, boosting local production, and expanding the state’s economy.
During a media briefing at the facility, government officials said the project aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s multi-sectoral development agenda, while demonstrating the importance of state-led investments that directly improve the lives of citizens.
According to the officials, the Food Basket Brewery is more than a conventional brewery. In addition to producing alcoholic beverages, the facility manufactures a range of non-alcoholic and food beverages, positioning it as a diversified beverage production hub.
They explained that shortly after assuming office, Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia initiated the project by performing the groundbreaking ceremony in response to the growing demand for beverages in Benue State, which remains one of the country’s largest consumer markets.
The officials noted that while the Benue Breweries Nigeria Limited was originally established during the administration of the state’s first civilian governor, the late Aper Aku, the new Food Basket Brewery represents a significant revival of the state’s beverage manufacturing industry after more than three decades.
Today, the facility produces the Zeva brand of beer, Zeva Malt, and several other beverage products, with plans to expand its production lines in the near future.
The Deputy Governor also referenced Governor Alia’s political declaration that Benue State would deliver one million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in future elections. He said his responsibility is to mobilize members of the State Executive Council and the people of Benue to work towards achieving the governor’s pledge.
Providing an overview of the facility, Plant Manager Adoje Emmanuel disclosed that the brewery has a production capacity of approximately 5,000 hectolitres operating on a two-shift schedule.
He said the company currently produces several Stock Keeping Units (SKUs), including Zeva Beer in 60cl and 50cl bottles, Zeva Malt, and a range of non-alcoholic beverages. The brewery also manufactures concentrate and carbonated drinks, with additional beverage brands expected to be introduced.
According to the plant manager, the company aims to expand its portfolio to between eight and nine SKUs before the end of the year, providing consumers in Benue with a wider variety of locally produced beverages.
Emmanuel praised Governor Alia for revitalizing the state’s industrial sector, stating that previous political developments had negatively affected existing industries. He expressed confidence that the current administration’s intervention would restore confidence in local manufacturing, create employment opportunities, and contribute to the economic development of Benue State.
The briefing concluded with plans for a guided tour of the facility to showcase its production processes and operational capacity.
