Senator Iyiola Omisore, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been replaced by Festus Fuanter, the Deputy National Secretary.
This change in leadership comes as the party puts on hold the highly anticipated National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings originally scheduled for July 18 and 19.
The Acting National Chairman, Senator Abubakar Kyari, announced these developments after the meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) at the party secretariat on Monday.
According to Senator Kyari, both Omisore and the former National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, are no longer part of the APC leadership.
Citing the party’s constitution, Kyari asserted that he is now the acting national chairman, while Fuanter assumes the role of the Acting National Secretary.
Kyari said: “My humble self as the Deputy National Chairman (North) to assume the office of the Acting National Chairman.
“Consequently too, the Deputy National Secretary, Festus Fuanter, will now assume the office of Acting National Secretary of All Progressives Congress.”
In his statement, Kyari addressed the resignation of Senator Adamu and Senator Omisore, emphasizing that there are no allegations against them. The details surrounding their resignations will be disclosed in due course.
As a result of these recent developments, the proposed National Caucus and NEC meetings have been postponed. While the new dates for these meetings are yet to be determined, Kyari assured that a future communication will convey the rescheduled timing.
“With the recent development, we implore everybody here that the proposed National Caucus and National Executive Committee meetings slated for July 18 and 19, 2023 are hereby postponed.”
“This postponement is not indefinite. A new date will be communicated in the nearest future.”
Kyari also acknowledged that each administration has its own style and affirmed that the present NWC will adhere to the provisions of the party’s constitution.
