There is a strain in the relationship between Governor Godwin Obaseki and Deputy Governor Comrade Philip Shaibu.
Sources reveal that the series of alleged dehumanization and humiliation Shaibu faced at the hands of his superior began when a viral video emerged, capturing him alongside Senator Adams Oshiomole during the National Assembly’s inauguration in Abuja.
Moreover, insiders report that in an irregular move, Governor Obaseki called for a meeting at his residence specifically for members of the Edo State House of Assembly belonging to the PDP, deliberately excluding his deputy.
Soon after receiving word of the gathering, Shaibu drove directly to the governor’s mansion, only to be denied entry and subjected to humiliation by DSS personnel claiming his name was not present on the invitation list.
According to a source familiar with the matter, the DSS operatives might have been instructed to keep Shaibu out due to alleged acts of treason and his affiliation with Senators Adams Oshiomole and Lawrence Oka.
The meeting itself was purportedly intended to determine leadership positions ahead of the forthcoming inauguration, seen by some as an attempt to undermine Philip’s political career and aspirations.
Meanwhile, in the ongoing standoff between the governor and his deputy, it has come to light that former Deputy Governor Mike Ogiadomhe and a former chief judge intervened promptly, summoning both parties to negotiate and restore peace.
