The Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District in the Senate, Ifeanyi Ubah, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Young Progressives Party (YPP).
Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah announced his defection in a letter to the Senate President, which was read aloud on the chamber floor by Senator Godswill Akpabio on Thursday during plenary.
Senator Ifeanyi Ubah stated that his decision to join the APC was motivated by the need to connect himself with a party that would allow him to solve the issues in his Senatorial District.
“I hereby announced my movement from YPP to the Most important party in Africa, the All Progressives Congress APC.”
After reading the letter, the senate president directed Ubah be given a new seat.
Senator Ifeanyi Ubah is in his second term having joined the Senate in 2019 under the YPP platform. He later unsuccessfully contested for the Anambra Governorship elections in 2021 under the YPP platform also before winning his re-election back to the Senate in 2023 in a keenly contested election in Anambra South Senatorial district.
Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah is from the same Senatorial District with the incumbent governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo as well as a number of heavyweight politicians in Anambra State including the immediate past PDP governorship candidate in Anambra State who is now a Labour Party chieftain, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo.
