Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has said that despite the fact that he is in a different political party from President Bola Tinubu, his government in Abia state has already keyed into the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration noting that he is on the same pedestal and driving towards the same purpose as President Tinubu.
Gov. Otti made these assertions yesterday when he received the Special Adviser to the President on Health, Dr. Salma Ibrahim and her team who were in Abia State on an advocacy visit.
The Governor emphasised the readiness of the Abia State government to collaborate with the federal government in the provision of quality healthcare for the people of the state.
“Given all the things you reeled out about the President’s renewed hope agenda with specific reference to health, I didn’t think I would be exaggerating if I say that even if we’re not in the same party, we are on the same pedestal. We are driving towards the same purpose”, Otti stated.
“We already keyed in on this renewed hope agenda of the Federal government. Because listening to you, all the areas that the Federal government is interested in, are also the areas we are interested in”, he affirmed.
Gov. Otti went further to list his achievements in the health sector so far, which he said include putting in place a robust budget for the healthcare delivery system, restoration of accreditation for the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, clearing of health workers’ salaries, tackling of maternal and child mortality rates, and other numerous achievements.
The Special Adviser to the President on Health, Dr. Salma Ibrahim in her remarks had earlier called for partnership between the Abia State government and the federal government to accelerate health sector transformation initiatives outlined in the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
She also passionately advocated for continuous efforts in the reduction of maternal and child mortality in the country, and assured her host that the federal government would support the Abia State government in achieving various health policies it has outlined. She commended Governor Alex Otti for raising budgetary allocation to healthcare in the state for 2024 to 15% of the total budget.
