The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has acknowledged that it made many mistakes during its 24 years rule in Abia State and has asked for Abians to forgive the party as it has learnt from its past mistakes.
The Acting publicity secretary of the PDP in Abia State, Abraham Amah made this known over the weekend while addressing news men.
He said, “We are proud to say that today, Abia PDP is learning from the enormous mistakes we have made and we’re committed to make sure that in the days, weeks and months ahead that those mistakes will not be repeated.”
“Because why government fails is when they fail to learn from the mistakes of yesterday. So, we have learnt from the mistakes of our past and by the grace of God we are going to use these mistakes to make ourselves stronger.
“We cannot will no longer continue to shy away from the mistakes we have made because if you say you are sorry, you must tell the world why you are sorry. And that is why we have said, we have made some mistakes, we will not do those mistakes again.
“And what we are seeing here today is a clear indication that PDP is still a very strong party in Abia State and we are not deterred by the current challenges. We have the assurance of 17 local governments that we have men and women who are committed to rebuild this party.
“Two, that no member, not even a single member of our caucus has left the party except one. All the members of Abia PDP caucus are still members of PDP”, the party’s spokesman concluded.
Abia State was governed by the Peoples Democratic Party between 1999 and 2023 with the party producing three governors, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, Chief T. A. Orji and Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu within this period. The PDP’s reign in Abia was brought to a halt in 2023 with the victory of Mr. Alex Otti of the Labour Party.
