TrackaNg, a non-governmental accountability group has criticised the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, who is the only Labour Party governor in Nigeria, over some expenditure line items contained in the 2024 Abia State Budget.
In a post on the organisation’s X handle, the NGO wrote:
“Dear Gov. Alex Otti, the average citizen can barely afford a decent meal, but in the 2024 Abia state budget, you plan to spend:
– N1.5 billion on 2 Toyota Hilux
– N10 billion to Establish a Film Village
– N1.5 billion to buy cars for Commissioners, Judiciary and Permanent Secretary
– N2.8 billion to buy busrd for Government House/MDAs
Haba Mr Governor, how will this help the common people of Abia state??”
TrackaNg called on the citizens and residents of Abia state to ask the Abia State government questions.
In an infographic accompanying the post, TrackaNg listed some capital projects it described as the top 20 most expensive capital projects in Abia State. Some of these projects captured by TrackaNg include:
1. Construction of Ogwe-Umuaka Road 3.2km in phases (N960 million)
2. Purchase of buses for government house/MDAs (N1 billion)
3. Purchase of 2 Number Toyota Hilux (N1.5 billion)
4. Purchase of vehicle for commissioners, judiciary and permanent secretary (N1.545 billion)
5. Conduct of Local Government Elections (N1.78 billion)
6. Purchase of Motor vehicles for Government House/MDAs (N1.8 billion)
7. Construction of Abia State Public Academy (N1.964 billion)
8. Government-wide digital transformation project (N4.65 billion)
9. Establishment of film village (N10 billion)
10. Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones at Bende, Ukwa and Umunneochi (N24.4 billion)
11. Construction of Nunya-Isuikwuato Road (N1.5 billion)
12. Reconstruction of Onuinyang-Okporoenyi-obuoru-Ikwuano Road (N1 billion)
13. Construction of Owerrinta-Umuikaa (N5 billion)
14. Provision of Connected Learning Network 100 by 3 schools (N20 .15 billion)
