These are uneasy times for the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 presidential election, Mr. Peter Obi as his political base keeps tilting towards disintegration with each passing day. Mr. Peter Obi who is battling to wrestle control of the Labour Party from the Abure-led forces and now has to contend with a raging conflict between two of his most vocal supporters – Aisha Yesufu and David Hundeyin.
The spat between Aisha Yesufu and David Hundeyin began when Hundeyin, a notorious propagandist apparently accused Aisha Yesufu of being a tool in the hands foreign forces to oust former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.
Hundeyin posted on his X handle, “I was 25 when these people came and took over my country. I was at the peak of my life. And they stole it from me. Even if Nigerians somehow manage to do what Ghana did in 2027, the recovery to return Nigeria to where it was in 2015 will take AT LEAST another decade.”
“That means the next time my country will be able to catch a glimpse of the glory it was starting to see in my youth, I will be nearly 50 years old. Life successfully wasted.
“Thank you o @AishaYesufu (Aisha Yesufu), @EiENigeria, @ChidiOdinkalu, @DSamsonItodo, @YeleSowore, @PremiumTimesng et al. Your well-compensated services to the Empire at our collective expense are well appreciated”, he ended.
David Hundeyin went ahead in another post to accuse Aisha Yesufu of receiving funding from the US State Department and US aid agency USAID to finance the Bring Back Our Girls movement just to bring down the regime of Goodluck Jonathan.
Aisha Yesufu hit back at the controversial self-acclaimed investigative journalist and dared him to publicly publish details of any investigation he may have carried out on her.
“David Hundeyin if you are who you say you are and born of who you say you are born of, I quadruple dare you to make public all the investigations you have done on me!
“You are a psychologically challenged investigative journalist who has no honour and will not publish the TRUTH when it does not confirm your bias!”, Yesufu slammed Hundeyin.
In a series of posts, Aisha Yesufu went on to attack Hundeyin calling him an evil fraud who need the validation of people (Obidients).
“David Hundeyin has been an evil fraud for a long time who needs the validation of you people. It is only a matter of time”, she stated.
“Imagine someone constantly telling you that he is the only one on the right side of history. Do I look like I am dragging history with anyone? Do I look like I want to be on the right side of anybody’s history today? The Nigerians that will occupy this space in 100 years are what interest me not already captured citizens who will do anything to deodorize failed rulers”, she added.
In yet another post, Aisha Yesufu bashed David Hundeyin saying, “David Hundeyin knows that many Nigerians do not think critically and are ready to run with everything. Why is it that Hundeyin has not made his big investigation into BBOG Finances and the contract as he said it is? Feel free to release your findings! We no Dey shake”, she dared her accuser.
As the accusations and counter-accusations rage on between the two Peter Obi supporters who have not seen eye to eye since late 2020, their respective individual fan base, who are mostly Obidients are left divided. This Aisha Yesufu/David Hundeyin rift is the latest spat between key members of Peter Obi’s Obidient movement which has been witnessing increasing fractures in recent times. This adds to the headache of Mr. Peter Obi who is struggling to hold together his support base and political structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
