Evan Okoro, the Nollywood actress famed for ‘Doctor Maria’ in Sexy Investment, has stepped forward with a harrowing account of the dangers she faces after her marriage fell apart.
In a touching online video, she revealed she is living in fear following alleged death threats from her estranged husband. She relayed his ominous warning clearly: “If you leave me, I will kill you.”
She lamented over the marriage’s failure:
“This marriage is not working. The shoe I took home is not my size. They didn’t pay my bride price, and my family recently called them to come and do it properly.”
She expressed frustration over her husband’s attempts to take control of her earnings. She recounted the incident from a recent business trip:
“I got a little money for an advert in Lagos, less than my normal endorsement fee. He wanted the money, and when I refused, he got angry. He didn’t even call to check on me after the trip. It’s been over two weeks now.”
Evan alleged emotional neglect and jealousy by her husband:
“He’s jealous of my success.”
She took ownership of her accomplishments, declaring, “I built that house myself. I started it before he came into my life.”
In the footage, Evan appeared deeply distressed, reporting disturbing dreams and worries about her wellbeing, pushing her to speak publicly:
“I’m not asking anyone for money. I just want to finish my house and focus on my life. If I keep living like this, I will go down six feet.”
She pleaded for vigilance from those around her:
“If anything happens to me, let the world know I cried out. I did everything to make the marriage work, but my life comes first now.”
Social media reactions have ranged from sympathy to commendations for her courage.
