Vice President Kashim Shettima chaired Thursday’s National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, gathering state governors and economic administrators to deliberate on the nation’s pressing financial concerns.
Prominent attendees included AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, alongside Hope Uzodimma, leader of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State.
Also present were Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo, Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, and Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, was also among those in attendance, further strengthening the council’s nationwide representation.
The NEC serves as a constitutionally recognized body tasked with advising the President on matters of economic governance, including revenue allocation and national planning. The council’s work is considered central to aligning fiscal policies between federal and state governments.
