Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has separated himself from the decision taken by the Peoples Democratic Party to expel the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, and other top members.
In a statement released on Saturday by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, the governor explained that the matter was never discussed at the PDP Governors Forum or at the National Executive Committee. He made it clear that the move to expel the affected members does not represent his position.
The statement said, “The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has formally distanced himself from the expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of Rivers State, Barrister Nyesom Wike, former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, alongside other leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party.”
Governor Mutfwang said the issue did not pass through any discussion at both the Governors Forum and the NEC before it appeared on the floor of the convention. He also stated that sending key figures out of the party at a time when unity is needed is not the right step to solve the party’s crisis.
He called for peace, dialogue, and cooperation among leaders to rebuild the PDP and prepare it for future challenges.
The move to expel the members took place at the PDP National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, where several high-profile figures were removed for alleged anti-party activities. Those affected included Nyesom Wike, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, former National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade, former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, Imo PDP Chairman Austin Nwachukwu, and others.
The motion was presented by former PDP Deputy National Chairman (South), Bode George, and seconded by Bauchi State PDP Chairman, Samaila Buga. The Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, later put the motion to a voice vote, and the delegates supported it strongly.
