President Bola Tinubu has expressed delight over the successful rescue of the schoolchildren and teachers abducted from the Oriire community in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, commending the efforts of Nigeria’s security agencies for securing their release after 56 days in captivity.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force for conducting a sustained operation that led to the safe rescue of the victims without collateral damage.
The operation also resulted in the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers, while several others were reportedly neutralised during the intelligence-led mission.
President Tinubu acknowledged the emotional trauma endured by the abducted children, their teachers, their families, and the nation throughout the prolonged ordeal.
Describing the rescue as a significant achievement, the President said the successful operation ended more than 50 days of uncertainty and brought relief to the affected families and Nigerians at large.
He expressed appreciation to the officers and personnel of the armed forces, intelligence agencies, and the police for their professionalism and dedication in ensuring the safe return of the victims.
The President also assured that his administration would ensure justice for the rescued children, their teachers, and the family of Mr. Oyedokun, who was reportedly killed by the abductors during the incident.
President Tinubu further commended the Oyo State Government for its cooperation with the Federal Government throughout the rescue operation and urged the state to strengthen security around schools to prevent similar incidents.
He also directed emergency response agencies to collaborate with the Oyo State Government in providing the rescued children and teachers with necessary medical care, psychological support, and other relief services following their release.
