In a dramatic social media outburst that has set political circles abuzz, Nigerian music superstar Davido has issued a desperate plea for help to former U.S. President Donald Trump, pleading with him to intervene in Osun State’s upcoming governorship election.
The “Unavailable” crooner, known more for club bangers than political diplomacy, took to X (formerly Twitter) with a direct appeal to @realDonaldTrump, painting a grim picture of growing tension and the spectre of violence in the southwestern state. “Osun people deserve to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear,” Davido wrote, urging Trump and the international community to “pay close attention” to the electoral process.
In a plea that reeked of desperation, the singer begged for protection for every voter, declaring, “We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election.” Sources close to the artist say he is rattled by reports of thugs and suspected political operatives mobilising ahead of the poll. However, critics were quick to note that Trump, who is not in office and has no jurisdiction in Nigeria, was a curious choice of saviour.
Political analysts dismissed the move as theatrical grandstanding, with one quipping, “Davido should call INEC, not a former U.S. president who thinks Nigeria is in ‘Africa’ somewhere.” Nevertheless, the singer’s 30-million-strong fanbase has now turned the Osun election into a global trending topic – all because one pop star picked up his phone and cried to The Donald.
