A total of 1,171 results out of the 3,763 polling units in the Osun State governorship election have been uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Result Viewing (IREV) portal as at 5PM.
The development came as the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), remained locked in a tight race in the ongoing collation of results.
The election, which was held across the 30 local government areas of the state, witnessed voting by thousands of registered voters who turned out at polling units to elect the next governor of the state.
The IREV portal, which allows members of the public to view uploaded polling unit results, showed that results were gradually being uploaded by INEC from different parts of the state.
As of the time of filing this report, however, the number of uploaded results represented less than one-third of the total polling units, with collation of results still ongoing. The closely fought contest between Adeleke and AMBO had generated intense interest across the state, with supporters of the two leading candidates awaiting the final outcome.
Other candidates who participated in the election include the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Hon Najeem Salam, and candidates of other political parties.
