Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has thanked President Bola Tinubu for his role in ensuring a credible electoral process, following his re-election in the August 15 governorship poll. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner on Sunday, securing his second term in office.
In his immediate reaction, Adeleke confirmed that President Tinubu had personally called to congratulate him. He described the outcome as a victory for democracy and the people of Osun, praising the President for upholding democratic values. “Mr President has called me and he has congratulated me. Thank you, Mr President, for making sure democracy lives on because you fought for it,” the governor stated. He also gave thanks to God for the successful election, attributing his victory to divine favour.
The final results showed Adeleke polling 511,067 votes, defeating his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who garnered 444,815 votes. The governor won in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas. It was also learned that the President reached out to Adeleke even before the final results were officially announced, a gesture the governor described as encouraging. Adeleke pledged to continue serving the people with renewed vigour and to build on the achievements of his first term.
