Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has hit back at human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) over the latter’s criticism of his invitation to the Nigerian Bar Association’s 66th Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt.
Falana had questioned the NBA’s decision to invite VDM as a panellist on a national security session, arguing that such discussions should feature individuals with established expertise. Reacting in a social media video on Friday, VDM accused Falana and other critics of classism, stating: “The problem these people have is that the son of a nobody was invited to come and speak where elites are seated”.
Dismissing claims that law remains a noble profession, VDM declared: “This bunch of clowns are telling me that law is a noble profession. Well, lately, law has not been a noble profession”. He argued that many lawyers are unemployed or unable to practise, describing law as “one of the poorest professions in this country”. He also questioned the justice system, asking: “A noble profession that rich men are buying judgment every day?”.
VDM defended his invitation, insisting that his experience with insecurity qualified him to speak: “This is not about book. It’s about experience”.
