A bitter public spat has erupted between prominent figures in Nigeria’s Obidient Movement, with allegations of financial impropriety and betrayal taking centre stage on X (formerly Twitter). The dispute, centred on a missing ₦1 million, has seen trusted allies turn on each other with accusations of bigotry and victim-playing.
The controversy began when a user, @magnificdude, directly challenged another prominent voice, @OmarxxCastro, accusing him of collecting ₦1 million from the movement and disappearing before the election. The post read: “You collected ₦1 million from the Obidient Movement and disappeared before the election, only to reappear all of a sudden with a victim mentality”. The accuser further labelled @OmarxxCastro a “bottom barrel BIGOT” and expressed pity for those “falling for your crocodile tears”.
The explosive allegations have reignited uncomfortable questions about financial accountability within the grassroots movement, which has faced previous controversies over the mismanagement of campaign funds. While the specific incident involving @OmarxxCastro remains unverified, the public nature of the accusation has amplified internal tensions. The spat highlights the growing friction among once-united supporters, with accusations of “false smear campaigns” and “crocodile tears” threatening the movement’s image of unity and transparency. Neither party has provided documented evidence of the financial transactions, leaving followers to pick sides in a dispute that could further erode trust in the movement’s grassroots leadership.
