The Former Minister of Transportation and current African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has sensationally accused former President Muhammadu Buhari of betrayal, claiming that Buhari personally instructed him not to campaign for the 2022 APC presidential primary and promised to anoint him as his successor.
In a explosive new interview, Amaechi revealed that Buhari gave him the directive not to campaign and assured him he would be announced as the anointed candidate, even committing the promise to writing. “Buhari told me not to campaign and that he was going to announce me as his candidate. He told me that and put it in writing,” Amaechi stated, explaining that his decision to follow the former president’s instruction ultimately cost him the party’s ticket.
Amaechi, who served as Minister of Transportation throughout Buhari’s eight-year administration, resigned in May 2022 to contest the APC primary, which he lost to Bola Ahmed Tinubu. His allegation aligns with earlier claims by political commentator Sam Omatseye, who said both Amaechi and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo were misled into believing they had Buhari’s backing during the 2022 primary.
The former Rivers State governor has since become the vice-presidential candidate of the ADC, partnering with Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 general elections. His latest revelation is expected to reignite controversy over the role Buhari played in the emergence of Tinubu as the APC candidate and eventual president.
