In what can be considered more ignominy for the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), its President, Olumide Akpata has promised to headhunt all members of the association who contributed to the violence that erupted during its 62nd NBA Conference.
It will be recalled that during the conference that took place in Lagos on Monday, videos circulated online of how legal practitioners who were seen been rowdy during the conference broke chairs and tables and engaged in brawls after the conference was over.
The lawyers conducted themselves in unbecoming manners that brought disrepute to the association.
Akpata labelled the conducts of members of the association as shameful while assuring the public that the association will look into their ignominious action and bring all parties culpable of the destruction to book.
He said that aside from the lawyers bringing embarrassment with their actions to the association, it also did bring such upon the nation.
He revealed that aside the breaking of chairs and tables as well as the brawls engaged in, the legal practitioners also stole people’s bags and phones.
He confirmed that the association has in its possession video evidences, while assuring that experts will be hired to look through and identify those found in the wrangling that brought disrepute to the conference and the legal profession in the country.
Akpata said, “Our colleagues stole bags, our colleagues stole phones, beat up staff because we have video evidence. We are going to get experts to look through those videos. You have my assurance and you have YC’s assurance that anybody found culpable for embarrassing our association and our nation like this will definitely be sanctioned.”
