Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has said that the protracted strike embarked upon by th Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will be over “in matter of days.”
The speaker stated this while briefing the leadership of ASUU about his meetings with the President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday.
Gbajabiamila had on Friday said the country would soon hear from President Muhammadu Buhari on the protracted ASUU strike.
The speaker, who met with the President at the State House for the second time in one week over the ASUU strike, said discussions with the President were fruitful, adding that Buhari would make known his decisions to the public after reviewing the lawmakers’ recommendations.
Meanwhile, the leadership of ASUU has applauded the House of Representatives for its intervention in the imbroglio between university lecturers and the Federal Government.
The President of ASUU, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, said, “For the first time, we have seen light at the end of the tunnel.”
The Court of Appeal in Abuja had on Friday ordered the striking lecturers to resume duty immediately.
