Chaos broke on Monday at the rally of the Peoples Democratic Party presidential flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar in Kaduna as unknown hoodlums stormed the venue, attacking party loyalists.
The thugs, it was gathered, were armed with dangerous weapons like machetes and sticks.
It was also gathered that they threw stones at the crowd at the venue which got people running helter-skelter.
“They collected the phones of innocent people at the gate before going into the venue. I’m going back home because I didn’t come here to die or get injured because only God knew who these thugs are or who sent them,” an eyewitness told Daily Trust.
The State Police Command, DSP Mohammed Jalige said they have deployed security agencies at the venue.
”Our men have chased away the thugs and the people as the place is now calm,” he said.
It will be recalled that this incident comes on the heels of Atiku’s divisive comments on the North needing a northerner to be president which has continued to attract severe criticisms from concerned Nigerians.
