The 2022 FIFA World Cup kicked off in grand style
The world cup fever was in full swing as hundreds of supporters gathered at the fan zone in Dubai Media City on Sunday evening.
Footbal fans from all parts of the world mingled and soaked up the atmosphere ahead of the opening game between hosts Qatar and Ecuador.
All the talk among supporters was about who would win and how far their own nations would get in the competition.
Other fans wondered aloud how they could get tickets for certain games while others asked if they should sell theirs and stay in Dubai instead to watch the action.
All of this along with a thoroughly colorful and breathtaking opening ceremony featuring Morgan Freeman, Fahad Al Kibaisi, Jung Kook of BTS amongst other array of starts
The football match on the day however was quite disappointing for especially for the hosts Qatar who suffered a 2 Nil loss at the hands of Ecuador.
Enner Valencia scored an early penalty and added a 31st-minute header to give the South Americans a 2-0 win over hosts Qatar in Sunday’s World Cup 2022 opening game.
Qatar, seeking to avoid being the first World Cup hosts to lose an opening game, looked shaky despite months of preparations.
Goalkeeper Saad Alsheeb typified their nerves, tripping Valencia for the penalty and earlier flapping at a ball in a melee that enabled the striker to head into the net in the third minute, only to see his effort disallowed for offside.
The Ecudorian record goal Scorer, Valencia unfortunately left tye pitch injured with the team hoping it won’t be an injury that keeps him out of the tournament after his excellent start.
