Bashir El-Rufai, one of the sons of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has made veiled threats against residents of Southern Kaduna in an online spat with an X (formerly twitter) user.
Bashir El-Rufai in response to a quoted post by a handle called AIG (@qykali), said:
It is your stupid mother that is an elephant. And Southern Kaduna residents will keep seeing sheghe if they continue to attack indigenous Fulani herdsmen. Oloshi
Bashir El-Rufai had earlier made a post in which he said, “conspiracy theories flying about Pablo’s former ties with SDP, then that must mean he/they have moles within the party already to sabotage the process. It is lie. This is not Labor Party. They cannot pull it off.”
In response, the handle @qykali posted:
“Look at this Giraffe neck calling the president Pablo whereas your midget Dad is a Fulani irredentist who engaged in industrial scale ethnic cleansing of people of southern Kaduna for the eight years he was Governor.”
On Monday, Bashir’s father and former FCT Minister, Malam Nasir El-Rufai ended months of speculation when he finally announced his defection to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) after resigning from the APC. El-Rufai weeks ago had earlier stated that the distance between him and the APC keeps getting wider.
One of the talking points of El-Rufai’s 8 years of stewardship in Kaduna state has always been recurring crisis and killings in the Christian-dominated southern Kaduna. Critics accuse the former governor of not doing enough to bring about solution to the issues fueling repeated cycles of killings in Southern Kaduna.
Bashir El-Rufai’s insinuation that the residents of Southern Kaduna will keep seeing “shege” if they continue to attack Fulani herdsmen is already being interpreted by some people to mean at best a tacit support for a side in the conflict and at worst threats of instability in Southern Kaduna by the son of the former governor.
Since the assumption of office of El-Rufai’s anointed successor, Gov. Uba Sani, there has been a relative peace in Southern Kaduna. The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa is also from Southern Kaduna.
