In a major development set to reshape Nigeria’s fuel supply network, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has declared its plans to start distributing Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and diesel nationwide from August 15, 2025. The refinery will deploy a fleet of 4,000 brand-new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered tankers to boost delivery efficiency and ensure wider access to fuel across the country.
The refinery’s distribution offer targets a broad spectrum of beneficiaries, including marketers, petrol station dealers, manufacturers, telecom operators, aviation firms, and other large-scale users of fuel. To support this ambitious rollout, the company will also set up daughter booster CNG stations and operate a dedicated fleet of over 100 gas-powered tankers.
A statement issued on Sunday highlights that the logistics support package includes free product delivery, designed to eliminate bottlenecks in distribution and significantly reduce operational costs in key sectors of Nigeria’s economy. “This strategic programme is part of our broader commitment to eliminating logistics costs, enhancing energy efficiency, promoting sustainability and supporting Nigeria’s economic development,” the company said.
This initiative comes at a critical time, as tanker drivers in Lagos State have threatened to stop loading petroleum products due to the high fees associated with the E-Call Up system on the Lekki-Epe Corridor. The refinery’s move is expected to ease such tensions by improving distribution efficiency.
Aliko Dangote, the founder of the refinery, recently revealed plans for a sweeping “shakedown” of the downstream petroleum sector, emphasizing that the overhaul will go beyond price adjustments. His remarks followed President Bola Tinubu’s official visit to the $20 billion refinery in Lekki.
Additionally, the refinery will introduce a credit scheme for bulk buyers purchasing 500,000 litres or more, a move expected to revive inactive filling stations, curb inflationary pressures, boost small businesses, and underpin the economic reforms championed by the Tinubu administration.
Further details on this nationwide fuel distribution project will be provided in due course.
